Steve, Zach, and I were fortunate to celebrate my Grandma’s 90th birthday yesterday, along with my mom’s side of the family and many friends. Can I tell you that my grandma is a spitfire and I’m 99% sure I get my feisty spirit from her? I LOVE my grandma! Yesterday as I was surrounded by family and friends I looked around the room and realized just how lucky the baby God has chosen for us will be. This baby will not only be loved by us and our immediate family, but also by my HUGE extended family. So, I thought I would take some time and share a bit about my family.
I have talked about my immediate family in the About Us section of the blog. I grew up with my mom and dad, three sisters, and a brother. My sisters are older than I am and my brother is the “baby” of our family. Of course, all of us are grown now and have families of our own. I have five nieces and five nephews. I have one great nephew, as well as both a great niece and another great nephew on the way (due two days apart, how cool is that?). We live within three and a half hours of each other and get together for holidays to celebrate together, and other times in between. I grew up near the Mississippi River and I think it is safe to say that we all enjoy spending extra time there during the summer.

Anyway, back to where I started this post…my mom grew up as the oldest of ELEVEN siblings. When I was little my family would go to church every Sunday morning and then drive to my Grandma and Grandpa’s farm (mom’s side of the family) to have Sunday lunch or dinner. My brother and I loved to help out with the farm chores, which I’m sure really just slowed down the process for my uncles and grandparents, but I don’t remember them ever complaining. I remember the holidays with my relatives on my mom’s side, especially our Christmas celebration. We used to jam into my Grandparents’ house like sardines! Every year it would be a tighter fit as our family kept growing. Although my grandpa has been gone for quite a few years now and my grandma is not living on the farm anymore, we all still try to get together at least once a year. I have lost track of the numbers of cousins I have, and most of them have children of their own. The majority of us live within a few hours of each other, too. Although we don’t get to see everyone as often as we would like, many of us keep track of each other Facebook when we can’t physically be there for each other.

I am SO HAPPY though that almost everyone made it to my grandma’s 90th birthday party yesterday. I even got to see some of my mom’s cousins and other, more distant relatives. I had many people stop me and ask about the adoption and tell me that they are praying for us. I also learned about more adoptions that have already taken place within my family. We are so blessed to have everyone’s support and love.
Since this has gotten rather long, I will write again about my other side of the family, as well as Steve’s family.
